More seriously though I would be more in favor of Purple funding an independent body to do this then have any Operational Capacity at Purple. I’m general I don’t think we should have Operational Capacity on anything, we should find and support teams that do.

@saymore — unpacking this would teach me a lot about the vision of Purple!

💡Idea for shortlisting FC applicants: ❌ DMing the “secret word” to @dwr.eth ✅ Setting pfp to Castaways by @0xen Obviously secret word not Sybil-resistant anymore. Holding NFT a costly signal of commitment and intel. And proliferates FC arch!

Rex

@24

hhhhhh good idea!

Cameron Armstrong

@cameron

Love the gating concept, not sure if the team would want to openly endorse a specific project that’s resellable so directly (even if it’s sick af like castaways)

tldr (tim reilly)

@tldr

Good pt, open endorsement could create its own set of adverse incentives…

Cameron Armstrong

@cameron

Would be nice to help @0xen buy up all those woods he lives in tho 🫡

tldr (tim reilly)

@tldr

I like this idea of creating criteria for FC legitimacy…

Cameron Armstrong

@cameron

As long as we remember that once there’s a metric it WILL be gamed 😩

tldr (tim reilly)

@tldr

Agree. This is the tricky Gov thing though — Without rules, we are trusting human individual judgment With rules, we are opening up to outright gaming I think dwr’s human judgment has been working unbelievably well bit I think scale will require rules of some kind?

Cameron Armstrong

@cameron

What if @purple lobbies for like 100 invites and the DAO comes up with some criteria? @ccarella.eth, @osama, and anyone else interested please tag a purple buddy to chime - what are y’all’s thoughts? (Also @v and @dwr.eth for viz so this isn’t a surprise attack)

tldr (tim reilly)

@tldr

Sounds very cool to me 🟣

Devin Elliot

@notdevin.eth

But, if we have no metrics we have Twitter

Cameron Armstrong

@cameron

Not when we push to mainnet - we’ll have (inshallah) a competitive market of front filters

tldr (tim reilly)

@tldr

I also wonder if Purple could pull a J Powell and issue “Guidance” for applicants. Things they are looking for. People then apply knowing the what may matter, but Purple DAO then rank-votes on who to admit. This allows for criteria without instant gamification

ccarella

@ccarella.eth

I would guess between the ~120 members of Purple the sun total of our individual invited is > 100. So we can organize amongst ourselves and not need any help from Merkle. Or in decentralized fashion, we can all do a better job as individuals in deploying our invites.

Imagine if Dan had a link he could provide DM candidates when they are not a “home run” or a “strikeout” He can let Purple DAO adjudicate the Gray area

This is the new @purple defender of the cast

Purp JPOW Last week: “The fundamentals are strong, we will slowly add new users” This week: “Just kidding we invited a million people, have fun!”

ccarella

@ccarella.eth

JPURP would be his name!

Cameron Armstrong

@cameron

Interesting! How do you think about independent bodies with a single source of funding?

ccarella

@ccarella.eth

In general, bad. As a no-strings attached Grant from a DAO to an Organization run by reputable people. OK. Ideally we could fund a Juicebox that many others could fund. But ideally ideally, this doesn't require funding (but I'm a believer in paying people for their time)

Cameron Armstrong

@cameron

I agree with all of that. I think a form of stewardship should get comp but it doesn’t need $$$ eventually. Ultimately I worry about how much of the world is driven by goodwill 😩

KMac

@kmacb.eth

I would not like anymore hurdles in front of people. Rather focus on peaking their interest than obstructing their access. Let’s see how many people can hit 970 on the leaderboard before making it harder. Channeling energy into how to onboard for ongoing engagement (in scalable way) might pay greater dividends.

KMac

@kmacb.eth

(shakes head sideways)

tldr (tim reilly)

@tldr

Right, but my suggestion is not about what to do with individual invites. Don’t want to limit those! It’s about what to do with dwr’s insane (in all senses of the word) flow via DM

KMac

@kmacb.eth

Ahh I see. Is anyone else having this issue? Might be as simple as Dan not blasting ohio in a clubhouse full of farmers. ‘Want to join? Find a Farcaster user and ask them for an invite.’

tldr (tim reilly)

@tldr

True, cutting Dan’s “top line” is another approach. I wonder though if sifting quality out of top line quantity can lead to some good results. Whatever he’s done so far seems to me to be working

KMac

@kmacb.eth

He could oc still hand pick just no shouting fire.

KMac

@kmacb.eth

Decentralize the filtering is the theme. Fun thought exercise. ✌️

My default is always to be against financial gates that block access to a public social square like fc. Premium features = 👍. I’ve gotten in pretty passionate and heated debates over things like this, token based voting, etc. It’s discrimination based on your bank account and I’m pretty adamantly against it.

tldr (tim reilly)

@tldr

Good point – I don't think it should be the *only* gate for the reason you said. At the same time, I think as one ingredient for sending a signal that you care, it could be interesting.

Manuel

@manuelmaccou.eth

This is nitpicking on your specific example of using 0xen’s pfp, but as a newcomer my reaction would be, “who is 0xen? I’m not here for them I’m here for fc, decentralization, etc not an NFT artist, and so on and so on. Very nit picky but just pointing it out.

Manuel

@manuelmaccou.eth

Keeping the content standards high is extremely critical. We can’t allow this to become filled with bots and misinformation and bs. So I’d love to see a way to combat that fairly. No worthy recommendations are coming to mind right now to offer an alternative to yours…but I’ll think about it cc @tldr

tldr (tim reilly)

@tldr

The situation I'm imagining is: "Non-FC user who wants to come in to FC." So if they hear that having a certain FC related NFT (Castaways) set as their verified pfp on twitter will give them a better chance of getting in, the people who are TRULY interested will spend the time to learn about 0xen and FC culture.

tldr (tim reilly)

@tldr

I guess that's part of the signal: The people who care enough to go learn, and to show that they want to be a part of it It should by no means by the ONLY way to get in, but could be one way for some diehards to move up the oversaturated filter into dwr's view Incidental benefit is seeing more FC arches on Twitter :)

tldr (tim reilly)

@tldr

Yes for sure. I'm not convinced mine is a great idea, just something to consider. You're making valid pts!

Manuel

@manuelmaccou.eth

And whatever was implemented, it wouldn’t have to be forever. Just to set the vibe and schema for how to use fc and what’s acceptable behavior 🤔. A learning req like you said could work, like optimism did. The time component of finishing the task. Still a pain but it’s something.
