three ones that I'm really excited about are: blackbird.xyz parallel.life oak.community I am hopeful that folks will focus on building experiences that "just work" for every day people on base - and that we'll be able to enable this with onramps/wallets so it becomes really easy.

grin 🧢

@grin

@saymore about OAK. Why is a local currency better than getting everyone to use USDC?

@jessepollak.eth

what do you love about farcaster?

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

1. it's an open protocol that has attracted some of the best builders in the space 2. warpcast feels like a truly onchain product and is constantly pushing the limits of how onchain can be fun, cool, & exciting 3. @dwr.eth, @v, and the entire early farcaster community have created a pretty special culture

Were you on Twitter in the early days, if so what are some similarities and differences between the early days of Twitter and Farcaster?

Jayme Hoffman

@jayme

What would it take for Base to move from Discord to Farcaster?

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

think very highly of it - was a supporter on day 1 and have stayed close to the technology over the last many years, both personally and through friends who have worked in the community. lots of inspiration from the cosmos stack in what we're doing with base & the op stack and we're collaborating too!

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

i wasn't really there in the early days - i joined twitter in 2011 (i think?) and then wasn't really active until 2013-2014

Rafael Gutkowski

@rafi

Farcaster doesn’t have that much noise. Well — except all the gm-ing and all but that’s kinda cute.

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

woof - i honestly am not sure. our discord is ~200k people and serves as a mix of broadcast (more of a fit), community building (more of a fit), and hands on support for developers & users (less of a fit). i'd love to see what a path might look like. what do you think?

queenassy

@queenassy

What do you think is why we should use farcaster

Jayme Hoffman

@jayme

makes sense short-term: create a Farcaster Base channel for broadcasts using “Base, Introduced” or maybe new mint (Base Builders) long-term: build a Farcaster client into CBW so people can get news, build and support in the same place they’re discovering and using Base apps

rkf

@rkf.eth

how do you envision the ux of apps on L2’s built on op stack like base improving in the near future? right now it’s kinda clunky and takes too long to make a transaction

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

love these ideas, especially the Farcaster Base channel. gotta figure out what the right NFT to use is for this. cc @wbnns

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

both - i think it's cool that they into this kind of physical activity and it's made me more interested in exploring it personally.

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

i expect that over the next 12mo it'll become seamless to transact across major op stack chains. the tech is already there to execute cross-chain actions relatively easily, just needs to be integrated through to wallets. with more time, it'll get more integrated into the chains, improving cost, security, trust.

Jayme Hoffman

@jayme

“Base, Introduced” would be easy but a “Base, Builds” could be fun leading up to launch “Base, Launched” … and ongoing mint for folks building on Base.

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

good ideas - thank you!

rkf

@rkf.eth

ty. but what in your opinion needs to be done at the wallet level to allow for a smoother cross chain/l2 experience? and are there any wallets you are aware of that are already doing this well

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

i think that chains will increasingly fade into the background of the wallet, you’ll interact with the apps you care about with the assets you have, and it’ll just work. it’s still early, but both coinbase wallet and rainbow are starting to move in this direction. lots more work to do!

Varun Srinivasan

@v

What’s next for Base after mainnet?

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

to date, most of our energy has gone to getting the network live across tech, governance, decentralization. i’m excited for us to keep pushing on those, while focusing more on:

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

1. really understanding what builders/creators need to make amazing onchain experiences and ensuring they have it 2. making those experiences really easy for everyone to use, working with coinbase and the rest of the wallet/UX product + infra stack

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

also — lots of listening and figuring out what we don’t know we don’t know and then going and doing that. think that with decentralized building just staying openminded and being willing to adapt/evolve/grow based on what we see is really important :)

Onium.eth

@onium

How do you see the current crypto ecosystem evolving over the next 5-10 years, and what role do you hope to play in that evolution?

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

i expect the whole world will move onchain by the end of the decade. millions of developers, billions of users. will happen as a result of lots of useful onchain dapps, with chains/infra fading to background. i hope to play my part in making that happen with @base!

How do you see privacy preserving technology being implemented on blockchains? Especially for payments

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

i generally think that @vitalik.eth's thinking on stealth addresses and other privacy systems that can be built on the EVM (and into smart wallets) is the most likely path to mainstream privacy adoption in crypto at this point.

Akira

@akira

Thanks. Do you see Base adopting stealth addresses too? Are there any projects that you think address this issue effectively right now? I'm especially interested in understanding how privacy will be addressed on mobile platforms without having to rely on trusted third parties or thin wallets

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

stealth wallets and other systems could definitely be deployed on base - they’ll end up working across all EVM chains IMO

I think being completely decentralized for so 9th networks at this time doesn't make sense. because of fees or some unnecessary onchain activities I think Faracast is decentralized enough not more or less and this is great.

What are your favourite sources for OP Stack / Base ecosystem updates? Aggregating updates via unjumble.xyz 🫡

MaxFowler.eth

@max-fowler

that people actually seem to see my casts !

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

for base, our blog (base.mirror.xyz) and twitter (buildonbase) are the best official sources. I like baseuniverse on twitter as well! for OP Stack, too many to count - probably starting with their twitter (OptimismFND) and the OP Labs blog.

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

TL;DR three big reasons 1. OAK works like a community bank where value derived from the actual money in circulation gets to be reinvested in the community 2. local currencies increase the "velocity of money," so every unit of currency does more circulation among local business before ejecting out ...

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

3. it serves as an open platform & schelling point for other builders to create powerful onchain tools for the city! there's a really long history of study of community currencies that pre-dates crypto. people powered money gives a pretty great overview of it:

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

we're still really early overall, but I'm excited about where we're heading - stay tuned :)

In case of an investigation by any federal entity or similar, I do not have any involvement with this group or with the people in it, I do not know how I am here, probably added by a third party, I do not support any actions by the members of this group.

Jesse Pollak 🔵

@jessepollak.eth

base is an open, decentralized, permissionless ethereum L2, running the same OSS OP Stack code as other chains (e.g. OP Mainnet, Zora Network) and providing consistent guarantees for users, developers, etc. we'll talking in a lot more details in the next few weeks as we come to mainnet — thanks for your patience!

Tom Leveen

@tomleveen

so…if i understood about 25% of that… what’s my next move? 😆

Cassie Heart

@cassie

This response is frustrating for many reasons. It doesn't answer the question at all, and it just isn't true. The long term goal may be decentralization (and the other stated properties which come _from_ it), it is not. Base has a centralized sequencer. CB has to comply. I can connect the dots. This was why I quit CB.

dcposch.eth

@dcposch.eth

FWIW I think true permissionlessness is part of the draw of the OP “superchain” with shared sequencers

Cassie Heart

@cassie

So long as those sequencers are individually operated and run by entities that find themselves forced to comply with outdated regulations, they will be forced to censor and trap funds. This is what bothers me so much — it’s crypto only in name.

Tayyab

@tayyab

I respect your opinion, Cassie. But, the alternative being no L2s? I understand your concern with Sequencers, I’ve been thinking about it’s implications as well.

Akira

@akira

Nice. Glad to hear you got there safely. Just found the gh. Looks interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Cassie Heart

@cassie

The current reality of L2s is one of varying degrees of decentralization. By far, Polygon zkEVM is closest although it does have a centralized prover, but it is different in that it cannot censor/lock up funds. Their security council leaves something to be desired tho (can upgrade contracts at whim of multisig)

Danny

@ds

What about scroll?

Cassie Heart

@cassie

Scroll isn’t on mainnet yet, and to my knowledge does not have forced L1 inclusion, but when those things are added (or when provers/sequencers are decentralized), awesome 😄

Canada

@canada

Good points...they do have just one toe in the pool at this time, but maybe there is a plan to change that down the road. The do have a decentralized mindset...

Uncle Davo

@uncledavo
